Investing.com – Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) stock was trading 0.8% lower in Thursday’s premarket session as the company ordered a recall of most of its Aveeno and Neutrogena spray sunscreens.

The company said it had found that samples of the products contained benzene, a chemical known to cause cancer.

The company has asked consumers to stop using the products and discard them.

It said it is also notifying its distributors and retailers by letter and arranging for the return of all affected products.

J&J said it doesn’t use benzene in any of its sunscreen products and is now investigating how it found its way into them.

The company said that the contamination shouldn’t cause adverse health consequences and that its action was driven by “an abundance of caution”.

The action is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, it said.
