The worst performers of the session were Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (T:), which fell 5.28% or 130.5 points to trade at 2342.5 at the close. East Japan Railway Co. (T:) declined 4.78% or 329.0 points to end at 6561.0 and TDK Corp (T:) was down 4.68% or 790.0 points to 16090.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2235 to 1297 and 207 ended unchanged.

Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.82% or 0.43 to $52.63 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 1.02% or 0.56 to hit $55.58 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.86% or 16.00 to trade at $1866.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.03% to 104.72, while EUR/JPY fell 0.02% to 126.97.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 90.543.
