Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the rose 1.17%, while the index gained 0.98%.

The best performers of the session on the were Coal India Ltd (NS:), which rose 4.82% or 6.60 points to trade at 143.50 at the close. Meanwhile, HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:) added 3.69% or 56.35 points to end at 1585.50 and State Bank Of India (NS:) was up 3.35% or 13.25 points to 408.85 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were UPL Ltd (NS:), which fell 1.75% or 9.90 points to trade at 556.50 at the close. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:) declined 1.30% or 38.80 points to end at 2941.40 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:) was down 1.02% or 45.70 points to 4449.45.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:) which rose 3.19% to 1577.95, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:) which was up 2.69% to settle at 5528.00 and State Bank Of India (BO:) which gained 2.33% to close at 404.85.

The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:) which was down 1.38% to 2939.00 in late trade, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:) which lost 0.89% to settle at 4449.00 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:) which was down 0.68% to 599.95 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1056 to 489 and 133 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1183 rose and 700 declined, while 1082 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.30% to 23.8900.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.06% or 1.15 to $1807.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.39% or 0.24 to hit $61.91 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.38 to trade at $64.86 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.11% to 72.299, while EUR/INR fell 0.05% to 87.8905.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 90.123.
