U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 2.15% By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the gained 2.15%, while the index added 2.45%, and the index climbed 2.51%.

The best performers of the session on the were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:), which rose 6.25% or 28.26 points to trade at 480.32 at the close. Meanwhile, Chevron Corp (NYSE:) added 4.19% or 6.21 points to end at 154.59 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) was up 4.03% or 3.41 points to 88.03 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:), which fell 1.11% or 1.05 points to trade at 93.29 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:) declined 0.57% or 1.53 points to end at 269.20 and Boeing Co (NYSE:) was down 0.04% or 0.05 points to 136.75.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 9.35% to 711.11, Diamondback Energy Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 8.17% to settle at 132.28 and Pioneer Natural Resources Co (NYSE:) which gained 7.12% to close at 237.55.

The worst performers were DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc (NYSE:) which was down 15.01% to 76.05 in late trade, Bath & Body Works Inc. (NYSE:) which lost 9.45% to settle at 30.36 and Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 4.09% to 157.05 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Valneva SE ADR (NASDAQ:) which rose 93.14% to 26.48, G Medical Innovations Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was up 45.45% to settle at 0.96 and Clovis Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 38.98% to close at 1.64.

The worst performers were Blue Hat Interactive Entertainment  (NASDAQ:) which was down 46.46% to 0.62 in late trade, 9 Meters Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 43.59% to settle at 0.29 and ACADIA Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 33.32% to 13.01 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2335 to 852 and 103 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2678 rose and 1218 declined, while 160 ended unchanged.

Shares in Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.09% or 6.69 to 157.05. Shares in Walt Disney Company (NYSE:) fell to 52-week lows; down 1.11% or 1.05 to 93.29. Shares in Home Depot Inc (NYSE:) fell to 52-week lows; losing 0.57% or 1.53 to 269.20. Shares in Blue Hat Interactive Entertainment  (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 46.46% or 0.54 to 0.62. Shares in 9 Meters Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 43.59% or 0.22 to 0.29. Shares in ACADIA Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 5-year lows; falling 33.32% or 6.50 to 13.01.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.27% or 5.00 to $1,835.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.73% or 1.87 to hit $109.86 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.74% or 0.85 to trade at $114.98 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.20% to 1.05, while USD/JPY rose 1.14% to 136.62.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 104.23.
