Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the lost 0.87% to hit a new 1-month low, while the index declined 0.89%.

The best performers of the session on the were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:), which rose 2.88% or 100.00 points to trade at 3,570.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:) added 2.31% or 20.70 points to end at 917.85 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:) was up 2.11% or 88.10 points to 4,269.70 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:), which fell 3.44% or 12.85 points to trade at 360.75 at the close. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:) declined 3.22% or 20.50 points to end at 616.50 and ITC Ltd (NS:) was down 2.96% or 9.90 points to 324.95.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:) which rose 2.90% to 3,571.20, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:) which was up 2.21% to settle at 916.70 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:) which gained 2.03% to close at 4,267.20.

The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:) which was down 2.97% to 324.90 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:) which lost 2.84% to settle at 716.35 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:) which was down 2.64% to 2,332.10 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1209 to 618 and 48 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1989 fell and 1293 advanced, while 102 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.45% to 22.09 a new 3-months high.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.12% or 1.95 to $1,638.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.89% or 0.70 to hit $79.20 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.86% or 0.73 to trade at $85.60 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.15% to 81.83, while EUR/INR rose 0.05% to 78.41.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 114.29.
