Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Sydney, the rose 1.94%.

The best performers of the session on the were Pointsbet Holdings Ltd (ASX:), which rose 12.45% or 0.31 points to trade at 2.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Megaport Ltd (ASX:) added 9.11% or 0.51 points to end at 6.11 and Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:) was up 6.61% or 1.14 points to 18.39 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX:), which fell 21.89% or 0.74 points to trade at 2.64 at the close. Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX:) declined 12.14% or 0.97 points to end at 7.02 and Resolute Mining Ltd (ASX:) was down 6.25% or 0.02 points to 0.22.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 895 to 626 and 366 ended unchanged.

Shares in Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX:) fell to 3-years lows; losing 21.89% or 0.74 to 2.64. Shares in Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX:) fell to 3-years lows; down 12.14% or 0.97 to 7.02. Shares in Resolute Mining Ltd (ASX:) fell to 5-year lows; falling 6.25% or 0.02 to 0.22.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.67% to 18.22.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.39% or 7.20 to $1,837.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.25% or 0.27 to hit $107.89 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.38% or 0.42 to trade at $109.52 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.69, while AUD/JPY fell 0.21% to 93.72.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 103.63.
